| GATHER THE WOMEN
STATISTICS On March 8, 2003, Women of Vision and Action used the existing structure of International Women's Day to launch a new global movement called Gather the Women to harness the wisdom and energy of women for the benefit of all life. New internet technology and traditional grassroots organizing strategies were combined to send out the call for the world's women to gather on March 8 to dedicate themselves to on-going action to bring balance and healing to our world. Women were invited to create gatherings as small as three or as large as 30,000 in their local communities, using their own creativity and building upon the foundation of their own unique traditions and values. Using the gatherthewomen.org website as the hub for both disseminating and collecting information, WOVA was able to create a global event using a "chaortic" model that encouraged development of individual skills, interpersonal connection, collaborative relationships and concrete outcomes. Four hundred and fifty gatherings in 23 countries were
registered on the Gather the Women website and we were told of hundreds
more that were not listed. Countries listed included: Afghanistan, Australia,
Brazil, Burundi, Canada, The Congo, England, Gambia, India, Ireland,
Israel, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Palestine, Portugal,
Spain, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States,
and Wales.
