FACT SHEET

WHAT: Gather the Women Congress: Weaving a World that Works

WHEN: October 17-19, 2003

WHERE: Radisson Miyako Hotel, 1625 Post Street, San Francisco, CA 94115

Overview of Event:

Using a unique model of collaborative partnership, the Gather the Women Congress brought together 300 representatives from twenty diverse women's organizations for three days of dialogue and action planning. The goal of this group process is defined clearly in the title of the event: Weaving a World that Works -- to awaken the enormous leadership potential of women to shape a world that works for all of us. Over a century ago, Matthew Arnold said "If ever the world sees a time when women shall come together purely and simply for the benefit of mankind, it shall be a power such as the world has never known." The diverse organizations and women leaders coming together at this event share a belief that it is time to awaken that power.
