| Planning an event of this magnitude is no easy task. The idea for the congress was birthed at a WOVA Retreat in February 2003 when Kathe Schaaf, who had been reading a book by Carol Lee Flinders entitled "At the Root of This Longing" had a vision for this event. She discussed it with WOVA's Executive Director, Carol Hansen Grey who told her she would support WOVA sponsoring the event. Kathe took the lead in contacting potential partnering organizations and organized a pre-conference planning meeting on August 22 in Oakland, California that was attended by 23 representatives from organizations who had agreed to partner. |
The idea was to make the event chaordic in nature letting the partnering organizations be responsible for certain aspects of the Congress. Below is the graphic rendition of the Congress organizational chart.

| In September, Kathe and Carol flew to Vancouver, BC, Canada for a 3-day meeting with Brenda Chaddock and Myriam Laberge, professional meeting planners, who had volunteered to help design the program. Their skill and expertise brought the program together. |
